Like most fruits and vegetables, Turmeric is rapidly absorbed primarily through the liver, intestines and gut due to the nutrients being in an “unbound” form.  Food in the form of grains are in “bound” form and are not rapidly absorbed.  We add other whole foods to our capsules that have been shown to block the rapid absorption of nutrients.

• BUCKWHEAT contains QUERCETIN which is a flavonoid found in many plant foods.  Quercetin can be found in foods such as onions, capers, and serrano peppers and it too, is known to block the enzymes that activates curcumin absorption.  Buckwheat is not a grain but is a Pseudocereals (other common pseudocereals include quinoa and amaranth) therefore it has no relation to wheat and is gluten free.  Buckwheat has a high mineral and antioxidant content. 
• PINEAPPLE  contains a group of digestive enzymes called BROMELAIN.  Bromelain is only found in pineapples.  These enzymes have been shown to help break down proteins into amino acids, helping to slow down absorption.  Pineapples are high in antioxidants known as flavonoids and phenolic acids. Pineapples also have very high levels of vitamin C and manganese.
• BLACK PEPPER contains PIPERINE, which is a well known compound that blocks the enzymes in turmeric that are responsible for the rapid absorption of curcumin, as well as many other nutrients in our foods.  Black pepper is very nutritious as a whole, containing minerals; calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, and vitamins B6, E, K, and folate as well as niacin, riboflavin, and thiamin.
